About Us... Developed in the historic Old Distillery Building in downtown Helena, the Old Distillery Lofts are cradled in the foothills of the Montana Rockies. Originally the site of the Placer Child Mining Claim, the property has played a historic piece in Helena's history. In 1916 the State Nursery purchased the property and built this historic building as their seed and feed warehouse, as it was perfectly situated in the Great Northern rail yard. Then in the 1940's Holter Hardware occupied the building as their retail store and warehouse. Later, in 1947, Norman J. Holter, scientist and philanthropist, founded the Holter Research Foundation on the fourth floor of the building. It is here where he developed and created the first ever pacemaker, called the Holter Heart Monitor.
In the early 1960's the building was purchased again and transformed into the Montana Distillery Company, fine distillers of products such as Lewis & Clark Gold Rush.
Now, after 8 years empty, the building is finding new life as the home of the Wild Plum Bakery & Market, The Warehouse Bistro, and the Old Distillery Lofts.
