Helena has ready access to freight rail services. Montana Rail Link, a division of the Washington Corporation, is a regional railroad linking southern and western Montana with the nation's rail network. Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railway connect with Montana Rail Link to provide nationwide coverage.
Air freight carriers include FedEx, Airborne, and UPS. Interstate 15, a major commerce route between Canada & Mexico, passes through Helena as do 2 major highways.
The Helena Regional Airport lies in the northeast corner of the city, just 2.5 miles from the city center. Its modern facilities and the prevailing weather conditions make it one of the most reliable departure/arrival point in Montana.
Skywest Airlines, flying as a Delta Connection, provides five daily round-trip nonstop jet service flights to Salt Lake City. These flights provide approximately 250 seats a day for Helena travelers, along with connections to domestic and international destinations.
Horizon Air, associated with Alaska Airlines, has two daily flights that serve Helena. These Dash 8 - Q400 73 passenger turbo-prop aircraft provide direct flights to Seattle with connections to Portland and other West Coast cities.
Big Sky Airlines flies to Missoula, Billings and Kalispell and Boise three times a day each, with connections to Northwest Air, United, Frontier, Continental and American Airlines, providing links to Denver, Minneapolis and the East Coast as well as some eastern Montana cities.
In addition, Exec Air, a local air charter company operates Lear Jet, turbo-prop, and other pressurized aircraft to all points in the United States and Canada. The Helena Regional Airport has been designated as a Landing Rights Custom facility allowing Canadian passengers to quickly clear Customs.
On the ground, Rimrock Trailways offers six departures daily with service to Bozeman, Billings, Butte, Great Falls, Missoula, Kalispell and all points in between. Rimrock connects with Greyhound in Missoula and Bozeman for travel to points east and west.
Within the city, Helena Dial-a-Ride offers both door-to-door daily service as well as many regularly scheduled stops connecting downtown Helena with the east side of town. In addition, HATS (Helena Area Transit Service) trolley makes regular stops in the downtown area.
